The ice chapel below the Watzmann east face is a very impressive natural phenomenon. Throughout the year you will find a firnis field, inside of which there is a large cavity, the Ice Chapel. The view is really terrific, depending on the season but different. In the summer, shafts are formed, which are up to 15 meters high. But even the way to the ice chapel is well worth it and also the transition over the river is really fun.

Below the Watzmann east face is the deepest permanent ice field in the German Alps: the ice chapel! Although the summer snow line is almost 2,000 meters higher, this firne ice field exists all year round.

Unique!!! You must have seen this and the ice cave just above. The last part of the hike is no longer marked because it leads over a boulder field, but it's really worth it. Above all, the temperature difference directly at the cave entrance to the temperature at the scree field is clearly noticeable.
Note: Sure-footedness and sturdy footwear are extremely helpful.
