The Alto de Garajonay mountain, with a height of 1,487 meters, is the highest point on the island, towering over the Garajonay National Park.
Located almost exactly in the middle of the island, the mountain is one of La Gomera's most important landmarks. From up here, visitors to the island can enjoy a panoramic view of almost all of La Gomera on clear days.

With its 1487 meters, Alto de Garanjonay is the highest mountain in La Gomera. When there is good visibility, you can get incredible panoramic views of the island and neighboring islands. On La Gomera there are many plant endemisms, and even at this altitude a great variety can be seen. Furthermore, the stone circle at the top is a testimony to the indigenous people of La Gomera, the Guanches.

various paths lead to the summit of Alto de Garanjonay. Which one takes, one will be overwhelmed by the diverse nature that line the roadsides. The ascent is not particularly difficult, but already very steep.

A tip? Unfortunately, it is overcrowded on weekends and holidays due to the nearby car park. If you only drive to the car park and then walk to the summit in 10 minutes and then don't take a circular hike up here into the forests of the north and the maquis of the south, you haven't gotten to know the island...

Mount Alto de Garajonay is the heart of La Gomera. The summit is 1,487 meters high and represents the highest elevation of the island dar. From the summit you have in good weather a view of the neighboring islands and the burnt places of forest fires.

The path is quite steep, but worth it: you have a view of Table Mountain and in clear weather even on the Teide, Tenerife's highest mountain. On the Alto, it is always a bit windy, in cooler weather to wear sweater or jacket. Also a picnic with this beautiful view is great, food and drinks, however, bring your own.

A climb that's easily manageable for beginners. The trail offers ever-changing scenery. Once at the top, you'll enjoy a magnificent view and plenty of seating. In good weather, you can even see the silhouette of La Palma.
