In 1794, the Prussian King Friedrich Wilhelm II had the small fairytale castle built on the Peacock Island for himself and his lover Wilhelmine Countess Lichtenau. In the typical style of the time, the pleasure palace was designed as a small castle ruin.

The castle was not damaged in the Second World War and has been preserved in its original condition to this day. The impressive interior in particular will take you on a journey back in time to the late 18th century.

The castle is generally open from March to October and can be visited Tuesday to Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Please note, however, that it is currently closed for renovation work.

A fairy-tale castle, landscaped nature and free-roaming animals: 200 years ago, romantic dreams were fulfilled on Peacock Island - and they still exist today. On the peacock island, Queen Luise could be relaxed with her family and enjoy nature. After all, the island was near the royal court and allowed her to escape from everyday life. Even today, the peacock island is a quiet haven at the gates of the capital.

Even today, the gem appears a bit like a dream world. From the mainland, it can only be reached by a small ferry. From there, a narrow path leads past lush roses to the western tip of the island. Behind dense trees it suddenly stands there: the white castle built in 1794, with its playful-looking towers and an impressive view over the Havel. It was built under King Frederick William II, who died soon after, so it was mainly by his son Friedrich Wilhelm III. and whose wife Luise was used.
