The 8.4 hectare Kungsparken was inaugurated by King Oscar II in 1872. Its official name at that time was still Kung Oscars Park, but popularly it became Kungsparken very quickly.
Kungsparken is the oldest park in Malmö and was created on an area that previously belonged to the Malmöhus fortress. In the spacious park there are some ponds and a large population of around 130 tree species, some of them very old, from three continents.
The heart of the park is the magnificent cast iron fountain, which was built in 1882. To the north of the fountain there is an old grotto, which used to be the main attraction in the park.
The building in the southern part of the park is the former park restaurant, which was inaugurated by King Oscar II in 1881. After extensive restoration work, Casino Cosmopol has resided in the old building since 2001.

Malmöhus (also: Malmöhus slott) is a castle complex in the southern Swedish city of Malmö. The oldest parts were made between 1526 and 1530 in the Renaissance style. The building is now home to Malmö's art museum and the city museum. The latter museum also includes the commandant's house and a Dutch windmill in the adjacent park.

The Danish King Christian III had the castle built by Marten Bussert in the 16th century. Since 1658 the area became Swedish owned. Since 1828 the castle served as a prison and since 1909 as a homeless shelter. From 1937, the first museum moved into the castle and it was extensively restored. Today it shines in the old splendor of the 16th century. Currently, the Museum of Art and the Municipal Museum are located there.
