"The Wolf Column (also known as the Wolf Monument or Wolf Memorial) in the Friedewald forest near Auer is a hunting monument and was erected at the behest of John George I, Elector of Saxony, in memory of a particularly strong wolf that was killed here on April 20, 1618, during a hunt in the Friedewald forest. All 36 people involved are carved into the stone base. The lucky shooter was called Anthoni Brum, a "Jäger-Jung," which, in modern parlance, probably means a young, untrained hunter. Beautiful, quite large monument.

Info:

The Wolf Monument commemorates a hunt in 1618, when a particularly powerful wolf was killed.

Due to war damage, the original wolf figure unfortunately had to be replaced with a copy in 1950. The Wolf Monument, which had been badly damaged by weathering, was re-erected in 1672.
