The Osterheide, as the westernmost part of the Lüneburg Heath nature reserve, extends from the eastern outskirts of Schneverdingen to federal highway 3. Wide heath areas extend close to the city, in which a well-developed network of paths provides insights into the heathland cultural landscape.

A beautiful area for hiking. The paths are well signposted and can be walked with good shoes. Water for dogs should be taken with you. In some places you have a great view over the heathland. Not as crowded as some other areas. You can also explore the Osterheide by horse-drawn carriage.
