The name blackness for the lake and the draining river has been documented since 1300. It can be derived from the Slavic Svirč = cricket, crickets.
On the northern edge of the Schwärzesee a tar furnace was built in the 17th century, which was shut down in the first half of the 19th century. The homestead was converted in 1851 in the Black Forest forester.
The Schwärzesee is supplied with water from various spring ditches in the west and south. It is drained by the blackness in a northeasterly direction to the Finow Canal.
The lake is a popular bathing and designated fishing waters.

The Nonnenfließ-Schwärzetal is a nature reserve. If you are looking for peace and quiet, you can hike very well here and also discover some animals.
You can swim at the Schwärzesee and also fish on the northern shore.
