The Protestant collegiate church is a landmark of Landau in the Palatinate and, at 675 years old, is also the oldest church in the city.
In order to ensure ecclesiastical and pastoral care for the city, which was officially founded in 1274 by Count Emich IV of Leiningen, the city's ruler called Augustinian canons from Zabern (today: Saverne) in Alsace, so-called Steigerherren, to Landau in 1276. They built a convent and a hospital and in 1281 began building a parish church, which was soon no longer sufficient for the rapidly growing city (freedom city since 1291).
The collegiate church was built in 1333 south of the Queich. The oldest part of the church, the early Gothic choir, was completed around 1335. By 1340, the collegiate church was completed except for the west tower, which was built from 1349 to the middle of the 15th century and was built at the request of the city and at the expense of the city council. In 1483, the monastery was converted into a secular collegiate foundation, with the canons retaining parish rights. In 1490, a second aisle was added to the north. The collegiate church is the largest Gothic church of its kind in the Palatinate. The nave, including the tower, is 70 m long, 15 m high inside and 20 m wide. The tower is 55 m high and dominates the cityscape with the 60 m high twin towers of St. Mary's Church on the south ring. In the 18th century, the tower was given its watchman's apartment with a turret.
From 1522, Johannes Bader preached in the collegiate church in the spirit of the Reformation, which led the city council and the majority of citizens to convert to the Protestant faith in the following years. Thus, in the early 1530s, a simultaneum was created, with the remaining canons being given the choir and the Protestants the nave. This continued until 1893, when the Catholics began building St. Mary's Church and the collegiate church finally became Protestant.

Begun in 1281 as a Gothic three-aisled basilica. In 1349 the tower was built. In front of it is a beautiful statue of Luther.
