Prince Carl of Prussia, younger brother of the later Kaiser Wilhelm I, traveled to Italy at the age of 21. Inspired by the grace of the Italian landscape and architecture, he planned his own residence on the Italian model. His father did not hesitate long and in the collaboration of garden artist Peter Lenné and master builder Karl Friedrich Schinkel one of the most beautiful castles in Prussia was built. The simple and restrained villa could undoubtedly stand in Tuscany and the gracefully designed garden down to the Wannseeufer completes the ensemble. The castle can be visited from March to December at weekends and from April to October also during the week. The coach house now houses a cozy café-restaurant.

Glienicke Palace was the summer palace of Prince Carl of Prussia. It is located in the southwest of Berlin on the border with Potsdam near the Glienicker Bridge in the Wannsee district of the Steglitz-Zehlendorf district.

Administered by the Prussian Palaces and Gardens Foundation Berlin-Brandenburg, the palace in the middle of the Klein Glienicke landscape park is a central component of a building ensemble of buildings from the first half of the 19th century that are important in terms of architecture, art and cultural history protection of UNESCO.
