If you want to see a mountain pit, you can try it here. The forest floor is densely overgrown with broom. The water from three sources flows as a small stream into the Ponor and reappears at the Salzaquelle at Nordhausen back to the daylight.
Years ago, the karst site was removed from the karst hiking trail and this route was diverted because an owl lived above the Schwinde. Caves in the plaster can be seen very clearly, but I have never spotted an owl.
