“Schienentrabi” at the train station
It got its name from the fact that there had been a calico printing shop in the village since 1836, which visitors could only reach via the Mulde - initially via some large stones, later via a barge. So you were dragged across the pond, this expression was already known at the time for the trip to the United States and so the term America on the Mulde became established for the factory and the surrounding area. But it was not until 1876 that the freight yard on the Glauchau–Wurzen railway line was officially registered as the Amerika railway station.

Regular traffic on the railway line was stopped after the floods in 2002. Pedestrians can now cross the Mulde near Amerika over a bridge.

Since January 1, 1994, America has belonged to the city of Penig. ☝🏻🙂

The Amerika (Sachs) stop on the former Glauchau - Wurzen railway line is located east of Penig in the Zwickauer Mulde valley, which is deeply cut into the landscape. The so-called Muldentalbahn was discontinued in 2002, but there are motor trolley rides available from time to time. From here there is a good selection of hiking options, such as to Rochsburg and the suspension bridge there over the Mulde, to Höllmühle Chursdorf, to Weißen Spitze Penig and others.
