Saint Martin, to whom the church of Forchheim is dedicated, is probably one of the most popular saints of all, along with Saint Nicholas. The memorial day of the former officer in the Roman army is on November 11th. On the night after the famous "dividing of the cloak", when he leaves half his army cloak to a freezing beggar, Jesus Christ appears to him in a dream. He then converted to Christianity and was later elected bishop of Tours (France), initially against his will.
Many are likely to have fond childhood memories of making lanterns in kindergarten and elementary school, the evening lantern procession through the dark village / district - and of course the delicious "Weckmann".

St. Martin's Church in Forchheim is the largest and oldest church in the city. Originally a royal private church, the current building dates back to the late 12th century, but acquired its present appearance through renovations in the 14th century. The interior design and its three portals are particularly noteworthy. The 57-meter-high tower serves as a prominent landmark in the old town.
