The Wittenberger Röhrwasser is a medieval water supply system in the Lutherstadt Wittenberg and as such a technical monument.

Although Wittenberg is located on the Elbe, the inhabitants of the city in the 16th century in its four neighborhoods by 15 wells and 2 streams, the Rischebach and the Lazy brook provided with water. The streams still flow through the city center, sometimes visible again.
Since the brooks and wells but the need for fresh water of the Wittenberg could not always breastfeed, had the Elector Johann Friedrich the Magnanimous in 1542/1543 develop a source area.
A pipe master moved north of the city from Teucheler forest from a pipe line into the castle. This pipe was made of hollow logs connected with iron bushes. The system was so effective that the prince was able to sell water to university and citizenship and so connections, so-called portions, were conducted in some courtyards of the Castle and Collegienstraße. Since 1929 this Schlossröhrfahrt no longer runs.

The Marktbrunnen dates back to 1617 but was completely rebuilt in 2017 according to historical models. On special occasions, beer bubbles out of the fountain.

The newly restored Marktbrunnen looks great again.
The beer which flows out of the well now tastes very good.
It is put out in a 0.4 liter Steinkrug. However, only on special holidays.
