One mile on this milestone corresponds to approximately 7.4 kilometers. Unlike the internationally standardized meter, the mile was defined differently in different countries and different eras. Approximations such as "10,000 steps of a soldier" or "an hour by stagecoach" were decisive. Understandably, this led to considerable confusion and regular adjustments until the meter finally established itself as the fundamental unit of length on the European mainland.
