From the 12th century, the only hilltop castle on the Middle Rhine that has never been destroyed.
It is worth taking a tour. As far as we know, it is also possible with a dog (at least it used to be that way, we had a sheepdog with us).
We have been to the castle several times, it was always an experience.
The castle is currently closed due to the corona.

Visitation only possible in the context of a tour, but worth it - if the group is not too large (see marksburg.de/informationen/). Therefore, best not to go to peak times. Taking pictures is allowed (without a tripod - there would be no time for it during the tour), but films are forbidden.

The Marksburg is a hill castle from the 12th century [1] above the Rhineland-Palatinate town of Braubach am Rhein, from which it got its original name Burg Brubach. It stands on a slate cone at a height of 160 meters and is the only medieval hilltop castle on the Middle Rhine that has never been destroyed. The plastered quarry stone building was built to protect and administer Braubach and initially also served as a customs castle. Wikipedia
