Anyone who has hiked in this beautiful part of Britain will have heard of Horton in Ribblesdale. The Pennine Way, Britain's original long-distance trail and still one of its finest, passes by the village. However, Horton is probably best known for its association with one of the great walking challenges in the country: the Yorkshire Three Peaks.

Horton is the traditional starting point for this grand undertaking, tackling Whernside, Ingleborough and Pen-y-ghent in one epic outing. For post-challenge celebrations, the village is home to two pubs: the Crown Hotel and the Golden Lion. Accommodation wise, you are spoilt for choice, with everything from camping and glamping pods to traditional inn rooms and cosy guesthouses.
