On the Werewolf trail is reminiscent of Peter Stubbe, who was publicly executed in the most famous werewolf process in the 16th century in Bedburg for werewolfing in 1589. On the circular route one gets to know the individual stations of his life and the typical Rhine-Erft landscape, which belongs to the Rhenish lignite mining area.

Peter Stubbe lived as a freelance farmer in the tiny village of Epprath, close to Kaster. Historians today suspect that he suffered from a rare disease that made him behave abnormally: possibly lycanthropy. With this disease, those affected believe that they can transform themselves into a wolf. Stubbe lived on his farm with his daughter and another relative. That already made him suspicious in the eyes of his neighbors. Whether it was the envy of his property or his unusual way of life - the eccentric Peter Stubbe was accused of being a werewolf, convicted and executed in a particularly cruel way on October 31, 1579. Because under the torture he had confessed to numerous crimes. The news of the "misdeeds" of the werewolf and his execution spread all over Europe.
