Peter Stubbe lived as a free farmer in the tiny village of Epprath, close to Kaster. Historians now suspect that he suffered from a rare disease that caused him to behave abnormally: possibly lycanthropy. Those affected believe themselves with this disease that they can turn into a wolf. Stubbe lived on his farm with his daughter and another relative. That already made him suspicious in the eyes of his neighbors. Whether it was envy of his possessions or his unusual way of life - the eccentric Peter Stubbe was accused of being a werewolf, sentenced and executed in a particularly cruel way on October 31, 1579. Because under torture he had confessed to numerous crimes. The news of the werewolf's "misdeeds" and his execution spread throughout Europe at the time.
