      The Outer Alster in the center of Hamburg is probably the most popular place in the Hanseatic city
      for walkers and joggers. The walk along the shore is very varied and offers lots of greenery, stylish villas, beautiful views and above all one thing:
      Relaxation from the hustle and bustle of the big city.
      With an impressive size of 164 hectares, the Outer Alster is a popular place for walks on all banks. The paths along the water are also popular with joggers and small sailing ships and the Alster steamers make their rounds on the water. The Alster is also a very popular destination for stand-up paddling or canoeing or pedal boating.
      The source of the Alster is in Henstedt-Ulzburg.
      The area of the Outer Alster is around 164 hectares.
      It is considered one of the most difficult sailing waters in Germany due to its downdrafts and updrafts.
      The jogging route is very popular.
      You will find lots of sports and play equipment around it.
      Tributaries of the Alster are Mühlenau or Mühlenbach, Diekbek, Mellingbek, Minsbek, Susebek, Tarpenbek and Isebek.

      With a bit of luck you can go ice skating on it in winter.

        The Alster divides into the Inner and Outer Alster at the Lombardsbrücke.
        The Outer Alster in particular offers excellent recreational opportunities with its numerous parks and adjacent sports facilities. The banks of the Alster in Harvestehude, Uhlenhorst and Winterhude are the preferred residential areas of wealthy Hamburg residents.

        The huge lake in the middle of the city center has always been a meeting point for visitors, but also for long-established Hamburg residents. No wonder: the view over the lake with its steamers and sailors never gets boring even the hundredth time.
        There are remarkable sculptures on the left and right banks of the Alster.
        On a walk around the Outer Alster you pass many of them and have a beautiful view of the silhouette of Hamburg and the water sports on the Alster.
        This is undoubtedly the most popular jogging route in Hamburg. One circuit is almost exactly 7 km. The route around it is also ideal for cycling or skating. Numerous sports and play equipment has been installed here in recent years. And with a bit of luck, you might even come across a few celebrities jogging here. Around the Alster you will find various sports clubs and rental places for sailing boats, which you can drive without a sailing license, pedal boats and of course canoes.
