The Notre Dame de Paris square, with an area of about 1,200 m², is located right in front of the cathedral, more precisely in front of its western façade. Since 2006, the square has been christened Jean-Paul II, in honor of the Pope who died in April 2005. It is also a meeting and event venue. On one side of the square, you can see a statue of King Charlemagne made by the sculptor Louis Rochet. Below the square, an archaeological crypt presents the remains discovered during excavations between the 1960s and 1970s.

The fire of Notre-Dame was a major fire, which on 15 and 16 April 2019 partially destroyed the historic building of the cathedral Notre-Dame de Paris. After about four hours, the Paris Fire Department managed to limit the fire to essentially the wooden roof truss. The western façade with the main towers, the walls of the nave with the supporting longbows, as well as large parts of the vaulted ceiling, and the aisles and choir galleries remained largely stable. The rich equipment of the church was largely preserved, but was partially polluted and damaged by heat, smoke, soot and fire water.

The Notre-Dame de Paris cathedral, a jewel of Gothic architecture, is the most visited monument in France. Located in the historic center of Paris, at the tip of l'île de la Cité, its construction began in the Middle Ages. The works started in the 13th century were finished in the 15th century. After being heavily damaged during the French Revolution, restoration work was undertaken, led by the architect Viollet-le-Duc, in the 19th century.

The Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris is one of the city's most famous landmarks.
The cathedral was built in the 12th century and is a masterpiece of French Gothic architecture.

From the outside, the cathedral impresses with its two towers, which are almost 100 meters high, and the characteristic pointed arch window. But the highlight is the interior: the cathedral is full of art and architecture, including impressive windows, an impressive nave and a stone labyrinth on the floor.

The Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris suffered a serious fire in April 2019, destroying the roof and the famous spire. Despite the damage, the interior of the cathedral was largely preserved and the French government immediately began renovation work.

The fire shocked the world and many people came together to donate money for reconstruction. Rebuilding the cathedral is a challenge, but also an opportunity to preserve the beauty and importance of Notre-Dame for future generations.

Although the cathedral is currently closed, there are already plans for its reopening and some parts, such as the outer walls and parts of the interior, can already be visited. It's an encouraging sign of progress in renovations and a testament to how important Notre-Dame Cathedral is to Paris and the world.
