Hidden behind a screen of greenery is the French Military Cemetery. 750 soldiers who fought under the French flag during the Final Offensive of 1918 and died in the region of the Lys and the Scheldt are buried in this serene place. The graves of Christian soldiers bear a traditional cross, Muslim graves have an appropriate crescent moon, and Jewish soldiers have the Star of David. This cemetery is the second largest French military cemetery in Belgium, next to Saint-Jean de Potyze near Zonnebeke.

This cemetery is the collective cemetery of almost all French soldiers who fell during the liberation offensive of October 1918. Most of them died during the fighting on the Leie and the railway from Ghent to Kortrijk. Many were originally buried in other municipal cemeteries. The original wooden crosses were replaced in 1927 by cast iron ones, and in 1980 by the current models in composite material. Striking are the many tombstones that show the different beliefs of the victims. The graves of soldiers from the then North African colonies are notable for their Islamic gravestones. There is also one Chinese buried there (he belonged to the workers' corps).

This cemetery was protected as a monument in 2008.
