How do you build a museum for a modern artist in an old village? Just as!

The architect Stéphane Beel has designed a museum that houses the art of Roger Raveel. It's a building that "fits into the village in an alienating way." It is a foreign body that does not pander, but on the contrary makes the village even more picturesque. Connoisseurs call it one of the most fascinating and poetic buildings by this architect.

Near the museum you will find part of "De palen van het onbeperkte" ("The Stakes of Infinity"), a series of three painted concrete poles, each eight, six and four meters high you on the other two.The colorful "environmental" artworks were unveiled in 2011 and point the way to the museum.

In 1999, Raveel saw the rise of the Roger Raveel Museum near the church, a sleek, white, contemporary building that harmonizes perfectly with the picturesque village center of Machelen-aan-de-Leie. Connoisseurs call it one of the most fascinating and poetic works of the famous architect Stéphane Beel. Inside you will discover a fantastic collection of Raveel's work: 279 paintings, 511 drawings and 19 objects found shelter here. Raveel's style was far ahead of its time and is characterized by a mixture of abstract and figurative, which come together symbiotically in his paintings. Recurring elements are white squares, bright colors and mirrors. The Roger Raveel Museum makes its collection accessible through annually changing collection presentations and offers a broader context for Raveel's work in temporary exhibitions with work by contemporaries, but also contemporary artists from the Netherlands and abroad.
