The Diemeltaler Schmetterling-Steig connects more than 20 calcareous grasslands over a distance of 152 km.
The special areas are often covered with juniper and smell wonderfully of herbs in midsummer.
Discover colorful butterflies and rare orchids.
Depending on the weather, the orchid-rich hiking season begins at the end of April and ends at the end of June.
In July and August, the nutrient-poor grassland flora shows its diverse and colorful side and from September, German gentian and fringed gentian bloom in violet variants, while the rare cross gentian presents itself in true gentian blue as early as July.
