"The Elfrather Mühle is a tower windmill near Haus Traar in Krefeld-Traar. The name of the mill comes from the Elfrathshof, to which the mill belonged and after which the Elfrath district, which later emerged, is also named.

Technology and buildings: The mill, which is the largest in the Krefeld urban area, is a tower windmill standing on a brick-walled base ring. The mill includes a one-storey residential building and outbuildings. The facade of the mill is coarsely plastered (sludged) and whitewashed.
The mill served to grind flour from grain.

History and present condition: The mill was built in 1823 by the miller Benjamin Schmitz from Vennikel.
It was used as a mill until the 1930s and then stood idle for some time and was inoperable. With funds from the city of Krefeld, the mill was put back into operation, but only operated again for a short time, until 1941. During the Second World War, the immediate vicinity of the mill was hit several times by Allied air raids and the building was badly damaged. The wingwork was completely destroyed and only renewed in 1969 and again in 1982. Today, while the mill is in working condition, it is not in use but is used as the clubhouse for a nearby golf club and houses a restaurant."
