The ruin Rotenhan is a real rarity. It is one of the 100 most beautiful geotopes in Bavaria. Once the castle dominated the important road between Bamberg and Fulda. The medieval fortification was carved out of the rock in the 12th century, until 1323 it was intact. Absolutely impressive!

The ruins of the high medieval rock castle "Burg Rotenhan" is about 2 kilometers north of Ebern above the district of Eyrichshof in the Hassberge district. The castle complex is the ancestral seat of the Barons of Rotenhan, and it is still owned today.

Very nice hike with mostly easy to walk paths. At first it is quite steep but then mostly flat. We only had some difficulties with forest work. A piece we had through the undergrowth because the trees were across the way.

The Rotenhan castle ruins invite you to visit. The very well-preserved castle ruins are an experience for young and old. Unfortunately it gets very crowded at lunchtime, so I recommend avoiding peak times. Parking spaces are available directly on site.
