The monastery ponds date back to the 13th century, when Cistercian monks from Doberan Monastery found the best conditions for building fish ponds here. They built the ponds step by step in a chain, and they were used until the 16th century.

Today they are protected. With a bit of luck, you can see fire-bellied toads here. This population is one of the largest in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

A hike for connoisseurs. A beautiful walk in pleasant surroundings is always a pleasure, but this is special: we expect three different pleasures. It begins in the culinary Fischhof Detlefsen. The farm manages u.a. the monastery pond in Hütterwohld. The fish comes in the restaurant on the table or in the farm shop on the counter. Scenic pleasure promises the way along the monastery pond and across the Hütterwohld. Bad Doberan is a city with history and tradition. In 1171, Cistercian monks founded a monastery in Althof, which was soon destroyed. Already 15 years later, the new foundation took place at the current location. The church was added in the middle of the 14th century. The cathedral is the Cistercian monastery church with the richest medieval equipment in Europe - an art treat. In the district of Heiligendamm, which belongs to Bad Doberan, Duke Friedrich Franz I of Mecklenburg built the first seaside resort in Germany at the end of the 18th century, which was decisive for the development of Bad Doberan.
