Consequently, the Prince Wilhelm Railway Company was then taken over by the Bergisch-Märkische Railway Company. In 1872, another bridge over the Ruhr near Kupferdreh was built to connect the Ruhr Valley Railway, which used the track of the Prince Wilhelm Railway to Steele.

The line has not been used for coal transport for many years. But it still exists: as the S9 S-Bahn line, which runs between Wuppertal-Oberbarmen and Haltern."
