Of course, the GDR paid for the import of West Berlin feces as well as for the import of garbage, which the West Berliners produced year after year. Anyone who lived nearby, or drove from Potsdam to Schönefeld Airport, can still remember the smell development.
In 1906, a sewage treatment plant was built in Stahnsdorf, which was extended in 1970.
Nevertheless, only in 1989, after the reunification, the irrigation completely ended.
