Building:
The school (barracks) was built around 1925 and was used by the French occupation army until they withdrew in 1929. In 1933 the Reich Labor Service moved in and in 1935 the barracks became an SA school.
In 1936 the facility was handed over to its intended use as a gender school.
After the war it was used again by the French army, handed over to the Federal Property Office in 1956 and used by the Federal Armed Forces since 1957 (the first command academy of the Federal Armed Forces until it was moved to Hamburg).
Staff:
The first commander of the gender school was Colonel d. Gend. Wilhelm Roettig, born July 25th, 1888, who was a member of the Gend.-Schule Trier from 1934 - 1936. Obviously the Trier gender school was closed and the staff relocated to Bad Ems.
Roettig was promoted to Major General of the Pole on July 6, 1938. promoted. During an inspection trip to Poland at the beginning of the war, he was shot on September 10, 1939. He was thus the first fallen general of the Second World War.
His successor as Kdr. Of the school was from October 1st, 1936 - October 31st, 1938 Major the Elder. Gend. Herbert Jilski. Promoted to Colonel. d. Gend. on April 1st, 1937.
Later Kdr. Of the Gend.-Schule Freiburg, the Pol.Offz.Schule Köpenick and since September 21, 1943 until the end of the war BdO in Croatia. He was promoted to major general on April 20, 1944. Pole. promoted.
