    Built on the remains of a previous castle, the Rocca was first inhabited and expanded by the Visconti in the 13th and 14th centuries and then passed into the possession of the Borromeo family in 1449, who still owns it today. Inside, the castle houses charming artistic treasures, including the frescoes of the Sala di Giustizia in the Visconti wing. They were created at the beginning of the 14th century and depict, among other things, the victory of the Visconti over the Torriani. Also noteworthy are the frescoes of the Borromeo Wing, which were part of the Borromean Palazzo in Milan until 1943, but were moved to Angera after its destruction became. In addition, the Doll Museum is particularly worth a visit. With over 200 exhibits, it is one of the most important of its kind in Europe. From the Castellana Tower there is a view all the way to the Sacro Monte near Varese.

This fortress, built around an inner courtyard, was built in different phases and is still owned by the Borromeo family today. For a long time, archbishops from Milan and the Torriani family fought fiercely over this hilltop castle. After the building had almost fallen into disrepair, the fortress was rebuilt and even expanded starting in the 13th century. A variety of architectural features such as a baroque fireplace in the interior of the castle give the impression that visitors have arrived in a completely different world. Children's dreams come true on the ground floor, because here is the Museo della Bambola, one of the most important doll museums in all of Europe.

            These and other special features such as the Castellana Tower await visitors to the castle at every turn. When travelers stand in front of the castle or enter its holy hall, it becomes clear why they should definitely plan a day for a flying visit to this attraction.
