"The Chinese garden with the motto garden of fragrance and splendor was the first participation of the People's Republic of China in a European garden exhibition. It was designed and laid out by six gardeners from Canton." (Wikipedia).
The garden is designed based on the example of old scholarly gardens as a symbol of the four seasons.
"The gate of spring opens the garden. On winding paths - the path of life is never straight either - past the spraying waters of spring, you reach the stone houseboat that depicts summer with all its joys Autumn with colored leaves in front of and behind the wall. Opposite is the winter pavilion, symbolized by plum, pine and bamboo. These three plants represent the virtues of toughness, perseverance in difficult situations and adaptability. In the winter pavilion the Visitors rest and look back on their life, symbolized by the seasons. " (Building Department Munich)

The garden was one of the main attractions of the IGA 1983, long lines formed in front of it and it could only be visited in single file. After a long period of closure, the garden is now accessible again (as of 10/2020), but the water systems are (so far?) Unfortunately no longer in operation to the original extent, the garden has lost some of its exotic charm.
