The Green Knight from the legend of Vondern Castle.

Since the tragic death of his wife, Wessel von Lohe lived with his four-year-old daughter Jolant, isolated from the world. One day, Johann von Galen demanded entry on the basis of a sworn oath of loyalty to arms. The drawbridge had to be dropped. At the cozy fireplace, Wessel let his old comrade-in-arms see into his tormented heart.

He told how his wife Gostelyn ran over the Waghals Bridge under the spell of a devilish spell and was pulled out of the Emscher as a corpse three days later. Now he was afraid for his little daughter Jolant.

Since 1982 the support group has existed to preserve the castle, which was in a poor state of repair at the time and threatened to fall victim to the expansion of the A31. The building was handed over to its sponsorship in 1984, and then renovated and modernized.

Today Vondern Castle presents itself as a proud, small moated castle with a partially dried-out moat that is worth a detour.

You first enter the outer castle with its characteristic and mighty corner towers through a gate. Behind it is the castle courtyard with the adjacent coach house, which was modernized as an event building in 2006 was opened.
