In several places in the Schönbach district there are old boundary stones that indicate earlier demarcations. Attempts were made to protect the borderline through various measures: First through the weight and the firm foundation of the stones, which made it practically impossible to accidentally plow over or move the stone, then through special penalties for deliberate border displacement (border offense) such as buried alive at the boundary stone or Beheading on the landmark. The stones placed along this path date from 1756 and marked the state border between (Electorate) Hesse and the Electorate of Mainz. Two types of boundary stones were used here: the so-called "coat of arms stones", which show the wheel on the Mainz side and the cross-striped lions on the Hessian side with the consecutive number or the simpler "middle stones" that only show the year 1756 and the Wear number.
