The Leitersteiner Born was used as a cattle trough, drinking water and wash fountain.

While the never-ending fountain used to have healing powers due to its high mineral content, today it is not advisable to use it as drinking water, as the water is still contaminated with nitrite from a dump created during the war!

But it is still a nice resting place with a pleasant splash.

The Leitersteiner Born was used by the people of Gisingen both as a cattle trough and as a drinking water and washing well. The Born is located on the Leitersteiner Berg and used to be easy to reach via the Lehrborner Weg. Before water pipes and washing machines made work easier, the women of the village met to wash their clothes at the Leitersteiner Born.
The water of the Leitersteiner Born never ebbed and served as a source of life for the villagers when it was cold and dry. A certain healing power was also attributed to the water of the Leitersteiner Born. In earlier times, doctors recommended that sick people and their families drink the water from the Leitersteiner Born, probably because of the high mineral content and for hygienic reasons, because the water quality was significantly better than the water from the pützen near the houses or the water from the " Tutenborns”, the actual village well, which was in the cattle grazing area and also serves as a drinking trough
