Munot
The city fortress is, alongside the Rhine Falls, the landmark of Schaffhausen.
Built by the citizens of Schaffhausen in 1564–1589 as forced labor. The construction principle
can be compared to Albrecht Dürer's idea of a circular bastion that is
free on all sides and surrounded by an extended city moat so that
ideal all-round defense is possible. The Munot bell from 1589 has been rung by hand every evening at 9 o'clock for
over 400 years and used to signal the closing of the city gates. Its ringing finds a romantic echo in the well-known Schaffhausen folk song
"Munotglöggli".

Even if no admission is required here, you should or precisely because of this you should definitely see the fortress. I was very surprised by the space behind the wooden door and the play of light inside. We didn't expect that. I also think the staircase is worth mentioning. Just great! Must see

A beautiful complex that appears great and massive at first. However, it used to be worth nothing. It could not serve as a defense system. The entire complex now serves as a leisure oasis, with a sports field, playground, animal enclosure for deer and, of course, as a vantage point high above the city. Very, very nicely done 👍👍👍

Visit the landmark of Schaffhausen and enjoy a unique view of the city. Right next to the Munot you will find the rose garden. The garden covers an area of around 2000 square meters and has around 170 types of roses.
