Location and history: Uhlbach is a district of Stuttgart, administered by the Obertürkheim district and surrounded by the neighboring towns of Obertürkheim, Rotenberg and Esslingen am Neckar.
The wine town of Uhlbach, located in a valley, was first mentioned in a document in 1247. The Uhlbach wine press was mentioned as early as 1366, the Andreaskirche was built in 1490 and the impressive half-timbered town hall was built in 1612.
The Stuttgart Wine Museum is now located in the old wine press.
Uhlbach and Obertürkheim were border towns in the Middle Ages. Here the Württemberg area joined the area of the Free Imperial City of Esslingen am Neckar.
In 1923, Uhlbach and Rotenberg came to the Esslingen Oberamt for a few years until it was incorporated into Stuttgart on April 1, 1937.
When the city of Stuttgart was divided into districts in 1956, the Obertürkheim district was combined with the Uhlbach district to form the Obertürkheim district.
In addition to tourism, fruit and wine growing is Uhlbach's most important industry. Even today, many families in Uhlbach still run their vineyards and one family runs a broom business. The Uhlbach wine gardeners' cooperative, founded in 1907, merged with the Rotenberg wine gardeners in 2007 to form the Collegium Wirtemberg - Weingärtner Rotenberg & Uhlbach eG.
