This original nature reserve is located in a depression that drains via the Guil to the Scheldt Valley. In the middle of this area is a beautiful pond that serves as a buffer between the recreational area and the nature reserve to the south. This pond is a stopping place for numerous water birds.

The nature reserve where alder, willow and poplar grow, among other things, connects to the Barelhoeve Petting Zoo. This contemporary farm has grown into one of the most important municipal projects in the field of environmental and nature development. Lowieke's storytelling route takes the little ones into the wonderful world of farm animals.
