    Very beautiful castle with a large garden. The castle is not open to the public. The garden can be visited. However, the castle café next door serves good cakes.

      In the back park there is a beautiful former mausoleum, built by Lieutenant Colonel Hieronymus von der Wisch. Architect Conrad Wilhelm Hase, who also built Marienburg Castle near Pattensen.

                Anyone in the vicinity should definitely pay a visit to the castle including the castle park. The castle is really impressive, the castle park is nicely laid out and very well maintained. You shouldn't miss the mausoleum either!

                      The palace was built in 1886 in the Neo-Renaissance style.

                      Surrounded by a wonderful Baroque palace garden, it has retained its authentic and original beauty to this day.

                      The brothers Carl Johann Christian and Gottlieb Ernst August von Heimbruch

                      had the palace built, reportedly at a cost of 800,000 marks.

                      The brothers died childless, so their inheritance went to the Reventlow family.

                      Count Christian zu Reventlow moved into the palace on October 10, 1896, and lived there with his family until his death in 1922. His eldest son inherited the entire estate.

                      In 1928, he left all of his German property to his wife for 500,000 marks, including the Etelsen estate.

                      After years of economic hardship, the palace was threatened with demolition in 1934/35.

                      After the Second World War, the castle initially served as a British military hospital.

                      In January 1946, Etelsen Castle was transferred to civilian administration.

                      At the instigation of a Bremen merchant, a zoo was established on the castle grounds in 1959. The mausoleum served as a home for the lions, but after several years of good attendance, enthusiasm for the zoo noticeably waned, so it could not be continued.

                      The castle briefly housed a casino, without success or a plan.
                      The castle and its grounds fell into increasing disrepair.

                      In 1970, the district of Verden purchased the castle, initially without any specific intentions for its use. The castle was initially structurally protected against further deterioration and was listed as a historical monument in 1978.

                      In 1983, the magnificently renovated castle was inaugurated and used and rented out by the Lower Saxony Business Education Center.

                      Since April 2024, the castle has been leased and offered for special events.
