Open-air theater
The open-air stage was built in 1935/1936 on the flank of the Leutnantsberg at the instigation of the National Socialists by the district garden administration. This was to be created as a "celebration site" or Thingplatz within the Thing movement and has 4,000 seats and 11,000 standing places. These are surrounded by various conifers. The entrance forms a former wardrobe house from 1948/1949.
After the Second World War, it served mainly for the performance of comedies and operettas. After several years of major damage caused by vandalism and the resulting futile search for a new operator, in 1998 the open-air stage was closed by the district office as the venue. In 2008, it was sold for a symbolic price of 1 euro to a private operator, which resumed the operation with open-air cinema and theater screenings after the necessary refurbishment in the summer of 2009.
