Brilon's market square is the official starting point of the Rothaarsteig. If you want to take it a little easier, you can look around the city museum here or simply sit comfortably in a restaurant. The market square is also the central hub for the buses.

The old town of Brilon with its beautiful marketplace and the pedestrian area invites you to linger in any case. Located in the Hochsauerland / NRW on the border with Hesse, Brilon with its more than 26,000 inhabitants is the starting point or end point of the Rothaarsteig. Hikers who start here on the Rothaarsteig can easily reach Brilon by train from Dortmund after a journey of about one and a half hours. Brilon City Train Station is approximately 800 meters from Brilon's Old Town.
