During his tenure from 1327 to 1347, the Brandenburg Bishop Ludwig Schenk von Neindorf made Ziesar Castle his permanent residence and administrative center. During his tenure at the latest from 1331 Cistercians were documented in the city. Furthermore, the Augustinian order was allowed to operate a termini. In 1341 the bishop donated a monastery to the Cistercians dedicated to St. Mary. The monastery owned the church patronage for the parish church in Ziesar and also the churches in the villages of Bücknitz, Köbernitz, Rottstock and Göhlsdorf.
