Stone beach
The beach here at Nymindegab is very different from the beaches around Blåvand. There they are full of shells and snails, while here in Nymindegab there are almost only stones. The explanation for this is that there are remains of an old moraine hill in front of Nymindegab, while there are large sand banks near Blåvand. Another explanation can be found in the shape of the coast as well as the slope of the beach. At Nymindegab it gets deep quickly, which means that light snails and clams do not stay when the sea waves wash back. It's different at Blåvand, where there is almost no gradient. Everything that washes up by the sea remains here. Therefore, the chance of finding amber is also better in Blåvand, because the amber that is in the flushing area is washed away again in Nymindegab. Another explanation why there are no stones in Blåvand is that Blåvand was formed from drifting sand over the past 6,000 years.
