The Green Gate (Brama Zielona) was completed in 1571 and replaced another gate that had already been built in the 14th century.

It stands at the end of the Long Market (Długi Targ) and forms the eastern end of the square.

Its most notable feature is its magnificent architectural style, which represents Flemish Mannerism, a style rarely seen in Eastern Europe. The Dresden architect Hans Kramer designed the gate, and the Amsterdam master builder Regnier, very famous at the time,
oversaw its construction from his hometown of Amsterdam.

The Green Gate in Gdańsk resembles a castle; it was once intended to be a city residence
for Polish kings when they were staying in Gdańsk.

However, this use almost never occurred.
