Former 12th century fortified castle, rebuilt in the 15th century, Dieppe castle stands on the heights of this Norman town. The ramparts and the keep tower are made of flint and sandstone. The Château de Dieppe, built from a combination of fire and sandstone blocks and white and red brick. In the center of the building is a round tower, which was once part of the 14th century fortifications. Courtines (17th C) connect the castle with the square tower Saint-Rémy. The castle used to be the residence of the governors of the city and was a center of resistance against English rule in the Middle Ages. Now it houses a museum.
