Since May 31, 2013, the Mühlentor has been a new landmark for Bernau.

The newly built gate stands exactly where the previous building stood. This had to be demolished in June 1885, as carriages could hardly get through the then dilapidated gate in Mühlenstraße, today even the fire brigade can get through.

The Mühlentor was built as part of the “Gateways that connect” project, which was completed between Bernau and the Polish city of Stargard Szczeciński and was supported by Pomerania. The wall gate is being restored in the project partner city, about 140 kilometers away. The aim is to expand the tourist advantages of both cities.

In addition to bricks for the outer walls, modern building materials such as reinforced concrete were also used for the interior. The gate, built by local companies, is around 8.80 meters wide, 8.50 meters long and 14.60 meters high. A room has been created above the passage that is to be used for smaller exhibitions, a model of the city and guided tours.
