The Leisthaus is one of the most famous houses in the Old Town of Hameln and is one of the most magnificent buildings of the Weser Renaissance. It is located in the Osterstraße in the middle of the pedestrian area. The oldest building parts of the Leisthaus are already from the Middle Ages. From 1585 to 1589, the architect Cord Tönnies built the magnificent sandstone facade for the patrician Gerd Leist. It shows next to the coat of arms of the builder and his wife and gable constructions with volutes and obelisks. The developed Utlucht is crowned by a figure of Lucretia. The parapet frieze shows eight virtue allegories. The gable top is adorned by a gilded envy head. Despite several renovations, the inner space structure with Utlucht, cellar, kitchen and fireplace room can still be seen today.
The Museum Hameln has been located in the Leisthaus since 1912, and since 1977 there has been a connection on the first floor with the canon's house.
Together with the neighboring Stiftsherrenhaus it houses the Museum Hameln.
