The Erbdrostenhof is a baroque aristocratic palace in Münster, located at Salzstraße 38. It was built between 1753 and 1757 according to plans by Johann Conrad Schlaun for the Münster Erbdrosten Adolf Heidenreich Freiherr Droste zu Vischering. The three-winged building is remarkable for its highly representative design on a very cramped floor space. Johann Christoph Manskirch was involved in the sculptural design. The frescoes by Nikolaus Loder, destroyed in World War II, were reconstructed by Paul Reckendorfer in 1965-1967. The city of Münster and the Regional Association of Westphalia-Lippe (LWL) have leased the Erbdrostenhof until 2057. Today (2013) it houses LWL office space and a baroque ballroom.

The masterpiece by the architect Johann Conrad Schlaun, built from 1753 to 1757, together with the Clement and Dominican Churches form the “Baroque Island” in the city center. Unusual: Münster's most beautiful Adelshof stands diagonally on a rectangular plot of land. Today it is used by the Regional Association of Westphalia-Lippe. A visit is only possible on official occasions.

The Erbdrostenhof is certainly one of the most beautiful buildings that the city of Münster has to offer. Among other things, its location is surprising: The Erbdrostenhof is located in the otherwise quite modern and inconspicuous Salzstraße, a street in the city center of Münster where many shops can be found. The Erbdrostenhof sight can be reached in a few minutes on foot from the train station, but also from Prinzipalmarkt. The imposing building got its somewhat unusual name because it was built for the hereditary prince Adolph Heidenreich Freiherr Droste zu Vischering. The construction took place in the middle of the 18th century.
