    The Frankenwarte (Frankenwarte) stands atop the 679-meter-high Hirschhügel (Hirschhügel). The eight-and-a-half-meter-high, round stone tower offers a panoramic view to the northeast, to the edge of the Höllental valley, to Lichtenberg and Bad Steben, and to the west to the hills near Nordhalben. To the south, Geroldsgrün, the 729-meter-high Spitzberg, and the 758-meter-high Schneidberg can be seen, and hidden behind them, the highest peak in the Franconian Forest, the 794-meter-high Döbraberg. To the southeast, the view extends to the Fichtel Mountains. The Frankenwarte was built and is maintained by the Franconian Forest Association. Plans to build an observation tower on the hill existed as early as 1930. However, the Frankenwarte was not inaugurated until August 12, 1951. In 2020, panoramic panels were installed on the parapet of the viewing platform, illustrating the towns and landscape features visible from here.

      Between the Bad Steben and Geroldsgrün stands on the 679 m high, partly covered with forest and boulders deer hill the Frankenwarte.

      On the 8.5 m high, round stone tower offers from the observation hatches under the tent roof a panoramic view in the northeast to the edge heights of the Höllental, Lichtenberg and Bad Steben, in the west to the ridges at Nordhalben. In the south are Geroldsgrün, the 729 m high Spitzberg and 758 m high Schneidberg and hidden behind the highest elevation of the Franconian Forest, the 794 m high Döbraberg can be seen. In the southeast, the view extends to the Fichtelgebirge to Waldstein and Kornberg.

      The saying "Good things will take a while" certainly applies to the construction of the Frankenwarte, plans were already underway to build a tower in the area around the lookout hill in 1930. On August 12, 1951, the "Frankenwarte" was inaugurated. After a general renovation in 1986, a table with the tower history was added in 1989.

        The observation tower was equipped with very nice information boards, they show how the tower was built and explain things worth knowing about the surrounding area. In the upper area, display boards with the localities and prominent landmarks in the respective viewing direction were attached.
