Goethe's house in Weimar was built between 1707 and 1709. Goethe lived in one part of the house from 1786 onwards, and later in the entire house until his death in 1832. Today it houses extensive exhibitions of the living and working rooms and of Goethe's work.

About the house
One of the most important testimonies of classical Weimar: Johann Wolfgang von Goethe lived in the house on Frauenplan, built in the Baroque style, for almost 50 years. It was rebuilt and designed according to the poet's specifications. Today, the state of Goethe's last years of life can be viewed largely in its original state. For conservation reasons, the number of visitors is limited.
Shortly after the death of the last grandson, Walther von Goethe, Goethe's historic house and the art and natural science collections he left behind were handed over to the Goethe National Museum, founded in 1885. Two museum buildings were built in 1913 and 1935 to house the growing collections, which now house the central foyer, exhibition rooms, display magazines and study rooms.
The exhibition
The Goethe National Museum is located in the same building complex as Goethe's house. The exhibition "Life's Floods - Storm of Action" explores Goethe's life and work. The exhibition, spread over eleven rooms, illustrates Goethe's complexity far beyond his literary work - from his political role as a statesman to his drawing work and his botanical studies.

As Goethe's residence, the space-dominating, elongated building on the southeast side of the Frauenplan is called (in the literature also called Haus am Frauenplan), which was built between 1707 and 1709 by the princely chamber commissioner and stocking dealer Georg Caspar Helmershausen. Since 1998 it belongs as part of the ensemble "Classical Weimar" to the UNESCO world heritage (Wikipedia).
