The Collegiate Church of St. Mary Magdalene in the Flaesheim district was part of a monastery.
In its heyday, there were over 100 farms and estates as far away as Dortmund and Hagen, local residents now report through tradition.
The church, founded in 1166 by Count Otto von Ravensberg as a Premonstratensian nunnery, became a free-world women's monastery in 1550 after the unrest everywhere culminated in the Reformation, the Flaesheim nuns no longer accepted their abbot and the archbishop approved new statutes in 1558.
The monastery served as a supply institute for unmarried ladies of the surrounding nobility during the 18th century.
The monastery buildings were destroyed in 1790.
Only the west tower certainly dates from the Wilhelminian era.
When Napoleon occupied the Rhineland in 1803, ownership of the monastery went to the Duke of Ahrenberg.

Very nice old church. It is possible to visit it inside.
In front of the church there is a small square where you can take a break. Benches, tables and trash cans are available.

Old collegiate church from 1166.
Located in the center of the old village center, there are several old half-timbered houses nearby, including the old fisherman's house as well as the bus stop (Stiftsplatz) and a small parking lot.
An Advent market takes place here every two years.
